Welcome to the College of Natural Science (CONAS), Makerere University. We’re the heart of this great university, a community of more than 1,000 students and more than 100 School members spread in 6 departments; Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Sports Science and Zoology.  

The Seismic Laboratory was launched in the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies, College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), Makerere University in Kampala on Thursday, 19^th January 2012.

The guest of honor at the function was the Commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production, Mr. Ernest Rubondo representing Hon. Irene Muloni, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development. The laboratory and other equipment were handed over by Mr. Per K. Johansen, First Secretary at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kampala to Prof. J.Y.T. Mugisha, the Principal CONAS. Dr. Charles Masembe, Senior Lecturer (Molecular Genetics & Evolution), a member of staff in the Department of Biological Sciences has been awarded an 'Outstanding ABCF Fellow 2011 Award' for his innovative and productive research on ASFV molecular epidemiology and pathogen discovery. His winning project is titled, "Is  African Swine Fever (ASF) virus transfered from wild pigs to domestic pigs?".
