Professor Otiti elected as Vice Chairman of the Africa Materials Science Society (AMSEN)

Professor Tom Otiti, a Professor of Physics at Makerere University was elected Vice Chairman of the Africa Materials Science Society of Africa. He was elected at the 7th International Conference of the Africa Materials Research Society held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, December 8-13, 2013. The Conference discussions focussed on broad materials research themes including some of special interest to Africa. The event also provided an opportunity for policy, education and networking dialogue, and helped define challenges and future priorities for materials research and development.

Some of the themes discussed included: Materials for Energy and Sustainability; Materials for Life, Health and the Environment; Basic Materials and NanoScience; Computational Materials Science; Metallurgy, Foundry, Processing and Infrastructure; Materials Education and Networking. The conference was sponsored by UNESCO, Addis Ababa University, Materials Research Society and the National Science Foundation.
