 There is a variety of scholarships and fellowships designed to help you and your family pay for university. Scholarships and grants are types of gift aid that do not have to be repaid. They may take the form of University scholarships, Government Scholarships, or outside scholarships.

Scholarships at Makerere University

Government Sponsorship/Scholarships

The Government for the Republic of Uganda offer scholarships for  various academic programmes to the best performing students to come and study at Makerere University

 

MasterCard Foundation Scholars

Makerere University entered a partnership with The MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships to 1,000 academically bright but economically disadvantaged youth from Africa to study at Makerere University from 2013 to 2023.

Makerere University Female Scholarship

The goal of Female Scholarship Foundation (FSF) is to “To increase the enrolment,  retention and improve their academic performance of female under graduate students at Makerere University; with specific emphasis on the sciences, and giving priority to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented geographical areas within Uganda”

The Chinese Embassy Scholarship Project (CESP) 2018

he Chinese Embassy in Uganda offers Makerere University 30 scholarships to be awarded to continuing students in various Colleges each Academic Year. The scholarships which commenced in the 2018/2019 academic year are administered by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD), Makerere University. The total scholarship offer is UGX2,800,000 (Two million, eight hundred thousand shillings only)

 

Requirements

  • You should have passed well to meet the requirements to join Makerere University
  • You applied for financial aid on time.
  • You are meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
  • You have approximately the same amount of financial need that you had in prior years.
