The 4th African Geosciences Student Conference (AGSC) will be held on 20-22 June 2016 in Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. The conference is majorly focused on assessing the viability and potential of the field of geosciences as a link between energy supply solutions and development not only on the African continent but across the face of the earth.
The AGSC 2016 will consist of many educational and exciting activities meant to improve the attendee’s (students and others) knowledge of geosciences, team-work as well as capacity building. These activities will include a mini challenge bowl, short courses on specific topics, distinguished lectures from professionals in the field, student oral & poster presentations, and technical presentations on topics of interest.
Africa is endowed with a wealth of mineral resources as well as heightened potential for renewable energy like geothermal energy. With the recent discoveries of oil in Uganda, Kenya and several other African countries (some of which are producers and suppliers on the global market), the discovery of vast amounts of gas in Tanzania and even more gas in Mozambique, Africa has become one the most looked-out for places for major players in the industry of Oil and Gas as well as geosciences as a whole.
