Academic Programmes

Bachelor of Science (Mathematics Major)
This major started with the first year students of 2010/2011 academic year. The second and third year students continued with the old major programme.

Bachelor of Science (Mathematics Minor)
This minor started with the first year students of 2010/2011 academic year. The current second and third years will continue with the old minor programme.

Master of Science in Applied Mathematics
The objective is to provide skills for high quality research and teaching in the field of Applied Mathematics.

Msc. Mathematics (pure mathematics)
The MSc Math provides training for mathematicians who are interested in the fundamental ideas of Mathematics without necessarily applying them but being well disposed to their application.

PhD in Mathematics
The PhD programme provides advanced training at international level for mathematicians who are interested in the fundamental ideas of Mathematics.

MSc (Physics)
The main objectives of the postgraduate training in Physics are:
• Capacity Building. To train Physicists who are needed in the various work force sectors....

PhD in Physics
To obtain a Ph.D. in Physics a candidate must have accumulated at least 9 CU in the courses and submitted a dissertation.

BSc. Geology
The main objective of this programme is to build capacity through training and research in exploration, exploitation and management of earth resources

BSc. Petroleum Geoscience & Production
The main objective of this programme is to develop capacity in Petroleum Geoscience and Production through training and research that are much needed in the region.

MSc. Geology
The general objective of the programme is to train Professional Geologists who can contribute effectively to programmes of mapping and exploration for all types of earth resources.

BSc. Botany

BSc. Conservation Biology
The major focus of this programme is on conservation biology, management, and sustainable utilisation of biodiversity and its regulation. Conservation biology aims at understanding ecosystems and maintaining their diversity.

MSc. Botany
The main objective of this programme is to produce graduates with more advanced knowledge and research skills in various disciplines of plant science which are relevant to scientific development and conservation of plant diversity for socio-economic development of the country

MSc. Botany

PhD in Botany
PhD in Botany involves specializing in any of the above disciplines below; (a) Masters of Science in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (2 Years), (b) Masters of Science in Natural Resources Ecology and Conservation (2 Years), (c) Masters of Science in Microbiology and Plant Pathology (2 Years), (d) Masters of Science in Plant Taxonomy and Systematics (2 Years), (e) Masters of Science in Genetics and Molecular Biology (2 Years)

BSc. Zoology
Taught courses include: Ecology of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, Genetics, Evolutionary Biology, Reproduction and developmental biology, Animal behavior, Animal physiology and Histology, Entomology, Parasitology, Hydrobiology, Invertebrate biology, Vertebrate biology, Biostatistics, Research methods, and Communication skills.

BSc. Fisheries and Aquaculture
Fisheries form an important sector of Uganda’s economy and contribute significantly to the nutritional welfare of millions of people in the great lakes region and currently eexports in Uganda increased to $ 248 Million Dollars by end of 2015.

MSc. Zoology
The degree of Masters of Science (MSc) is undertaken through a two – year full time programme of study and is awarded after examining the candidate in both written examinations and dissertation.

PhD in Zoology
The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a three – year full time program of study and in depth scientific research. It is awarded to candidates who successfully complete their research and write a thesis that is examined.

BSc. Biochemistry (Major)
The course has been arranged so that the introductory and metabolic aspects that are central to biochemistry are dealt with in the first two semesters.

BSc. Biochemistry (Minor)
The student has to pass all core courses and AT LEAST FOUR COURSES AS ELECTIVES to complete the requirements for the minor.

BSc. Sports Science
In addition to the normal university admission requirements, a candidate must have a minimum grade of 3 principal passes in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (UACE) or its equivalent and a principal pass in at least 2 of the following subjects: Biology, Physical sciences, or Physics and Chemistry.

MSc. Biochemistry
The overall objective of the programme is to provide advanced-level training in biochemistry so that graduates of the programme can carry out research and out-reach activities, and innovation in the medical, agricultural and industrial sectors.
