The Department of Physics is hosting the Joint Undertaking for an African Materials Institute (JUAMI) that began on the 10th December ending on the 21st December at Makerere University, Campus, Kampala-Uganda.
The objectives of the JUAMI include supporting the development of collaborative materials research and education activities in Africa, the US and Europe. The major activity of the current JUAMI is an intensive two-week school in Africa on the topics of materials for energy, sustainability and technology, with instruction by world re-known researchers.
This is the 3rd school after the 1st and 2nd were held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (2012) co-organised by the Addis Ababa University and Arusha, Tanzania (2016) co-organised by the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology. Impactful and lasting collaborations have been established between researchers who attend the activities.
