Background: The Department of Zoology, Entomology, and Fisheries Sciences (ZEFS) is partnering with the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) to implement a project aimed at increasing access to freshwater biodiversity data in Uganda. To make the outcomes of this project sustainable, and aid data mobilization and sharing in future, the project implementing partners intend to build capacity of young and highly ambitious and motivated graduate students in data mobilization, data use and data publication workflows. The Department of Zoology, Entomology, and Fisheries Sciences is therefore pleased to announce studentship positions for highly capable and promising graduate students who are interested in completing their M.Sc. degree in different aspects of aquatic biodiversity.
Number of positions: Three (3) are available, one for each of the thematic areas: Phytoplankton, Invertebrates and Fish.
Workstation: Coursework will be undertaken at the Department Zoology, Entomology, and Fisheries Sciences (Makerere University), while research will be carried out at NaFIRRI, Jinja
Duration of support: A maximum of two years and six month (effective February 2019)
Nature of support: Each student will have full access to data relevant for the field of study, will be attached to appropriate scientists to guide him/her throughout the research cycle, a modest monthly stipend, and tuition for two (un-interrupted) academic years.
