Welcome to the cradle of sciences at Makerere University – The College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS). CoNAS is one of the now 9 Colleges established under the collegiate system at Makerere University. The College teaches basic sciences namely: biochemistry, botany, chemistry, geology and petroleum studies, mathematics, physics, zoology and sports science. The College services students from other colleges thereby providing foundations for the applied sciences offered throughout the University.

Representatives to Makerere University Senate Elected
The Schools of the College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS) convened yesterday (15th March 2012) afternoon, in special Academic Board meetings to elect their representatives to Senate. The representatives were elected; Assoc. Prof. S.A Nyanzi from the department of Chemistry was elected unopposed to represent the School of Physical Sciences while Assoc. Prof. F. Muyodi from the department of Biological Sciences was elected unopposed to represent the School of Biosciences.

Dr. Charles Masembe Wins the ABCF Fellow Award!
Dr. Charles Masembe, Senior Lecturer (Molecular Genetics & Evolution), a member of staff in the Department of Biological Sciences has been awarded an 'Outstanding ABCF Fellow 2011 Award' for his innovative and productive research on ASFV molecular epidemiology and pathogen discovery. His winning project is titled, "Is African Swine Fever (ASF) virus transfered from wild pigs to domestic pigs?".

Seismic Laboratory and New MSc. Programme Launched at the College of Natural Sciences
The Seismic Laboratory was launched in the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies, College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), Makerere University in Kampala on Thursday, 19th January 2012.
The guest of honor at the function was the Commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production, Mr. Ernest Rubondo representing Hon. Irene Muloni, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development. The laboratory and other equipment were handed over by Mr. Per K. Johansen, First Secretary at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kampala to Prof. J.Y.T. Mugisha, the Principal CONAS. Bio-diesel: An alternative Fuel Source
Dr. Abel Rwendeire (Deputy Chairperson of the National Planning Authority) an alumni and a former member of staff delivered a public lecture at the College of Natural Sciences on the 15th December 2011. His lecture titled 'PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION PROCESS'. The lecture was well received and attended especially as Climate Change is a hot topic across the globe and biodiesel has been fronted as a major consideration in the discussions.
